Ok I’m not going to lie, I’m not that enthusiastic about this day but I am very excited to share this kitchen reveal with you!
This full kitchen reno was a big step for the homeowners who have lived in the house for 31 years! A previous kitchen renovation updated the small galley kitchen and was a nice upgrade for the family of four. After their two sons moved out of the house the owners thought about downsizing but ultimately decided to stay in their semi-detached home. That decision led them to consider some major upgrades for the main floor. New kitchen, new floors and all new doors on the main level. They decided that they liked the Bodbyn Ikea style cabinet doors and then we went from there! Designing and overseeing an Ikea Kitchen install can be a daunting one despite how easy the instructions make it look, but I was there every step of the way!

The existing kitchen was small with minimal counter space. The homeowners made it work as they needed the dining room space in the adjacent room. You’ll see in the after pictures that we kept this same layout on the wall with the only window.
The original kitchen was tiny, only about 8 square feet. Not enough for a full blown meal prep if you ask me! After much discussion it was decided that the wall diving the kitchen and dining would come down! Since their kids had moved out the owners decided that they could get rid of the dining table and we could then utilize that space in the new kitchen. New hardwood floors were added throughout the main floor.
And now for the After…
What an amazing difference knocking down a wall makes! As I mentioned, utilizing the original dining room gave us room to incorporate a large island where they can entertain guests. Beautiful stainless steel Kitchenaid appliances replaced the outdated white appliances, a new cooktop and range were added into the island. And you will notice that we went with the grey Bodbyn cabinets for the island. I love an all white kitchen but I also love all shades of grey. I think the contrast is subtle and really makes the island pop! We used nonfunctioning cabinet doors around the island to give it a custom built in look.
How about those pendant lights?!? I am in LOVE. I’m so happy my clients made the decision to go with these lights. Everyone can have a stainless steel drum pendant but how many will bite the style bullet and go for a stunner like this pair?
We used Ikea’s Maximera soft closing drawers – well worth the upgrade, but be careful you’ll be slamming doors wherever you go after you get your get used to these! The backsplash was updated with a gorgeous white ceramic arabesque mosaic tile. Classic like a subway tile but this design provides a little bit of glamour. The dining room wall got a major upgrade. We added eight, yes eight, 30″ cabinets to this wall giving them an additional 20 sq feet of counter space just on this wall alone. That’s double what they had in the original kitchen! This space can also serve as a buffet, a temporary bar, a gift table, whatever you need for whatever occasion. The lower cabinets all feature pull out drawers which provides so much useful storage.
After a fairly smooth renovation my clients are thrilled with their new space. With the holidays right around the corner they will definitely be hosting all of the family get togethers, cocktail parties, brunches any excuse to show this fabulous new kitchen!
